We at
Providence Wesleyan enjoy our relationship with Jesus so much that
we want everyone to experience it along with us. In fact, we're
convinced that knowing Jesus Christ is the most meaningful
relationship we can ever enjoy in life. Here are seven simple (we
didn't say "easy!") steps to developing a personal
relationship with Jesus:
1.
Believe what the Bible says about Jesus Christ.
"
Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his
disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are
written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God, and that by believing, you may have life in his name."
(John 20: 30-31.)
2.
Admit to God that you have sinned (stepped off God's path). The
Bible calls this "confession."
"For
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". (Romans
3:23)
"If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John
1:9)
3.
Choose to turn away from the sins in your life and turn toward
God. The Bible calls this "repentance."
"Repent,
then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out."
(Acts 3:19)
4.
Open up your "inner life" to Jesus Christ and receive
Him as your own personal Savior and Lord.
"To
all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave
the right to become children of God." (John 1:12)
Jesus
said, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone
hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with
him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20)
Pray ...
"Lord Jesus, I believe you are Who You claimed to be. I admit
that I have strayed from God's path. Forgive me and come into my
life right now. With Your help I will live for You the rest of my
life. Amen!
5.
Tell someone that you have accepted Jesus Christ and that you
intend to live the rest of your life for Him.
Jesus
said, "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also
acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me
before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven."
(Matthew 10:32-33).
6. Get
connected with a group of Christians in a local church.
Jesus said, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35).
7.
Read the Bible every day; asking God to help you understand and do
what it says.
"As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the
word, that you may grow thereby." (1 Peter 2:2).
