Divine Deliverance - Forgiven
Week Five, Day Six
April 6, 2019
Who can forgive our sins but God alone? The Gospels give several instances of Jesus showing His divinity by offering forgiveness and atonement, even to the point of angering the religious leaders. But, he wasn't blaspheming. The forgiveness of Jesus is a huge example that Jesus is divine. He is one with the Father.
In Luke 5, Jesus heals a paralyzed man. Jesus was teaching and healing, with the Pharisees watching. Men were carrying their paralyzed friend on a mat, and couldn't get through the crowd to Jesus, so they lowered their friend down to Him from a rooftop, directly in the center of the crowd. Luke 5:20 says "When Jesus saw their faith, he said, Friend, your sins are forgiven." Well, this upset some Pharisees who urged to know how He could do such a thing, since God alone can forgive. Jesus said "Which is easier to say, your sins are forgiven, or to say get up and walk? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." With that, He told the man to get up, take his mat, and go home.
It is a miracle in itself that He forgives us. Maybe you have lived a blameless life, with only minor transgressions. But if you think of all of humanity and the way we live, or even really think about your darkest moments, you will understand that His forgiveness is nothing short of divine and miraculous.
Jesus has the authority to blot out your transgressions and to cast your sin as far as the East is from the West. With that information, does it change the way you life out your day to day life? When I consider how much power and authority He has, but He consistently chooses grace, I'm in awe. How will you let His forgiveness change your heart today? You decide.
Forgiving savior, you offer us divine intervention. Thank you for blotting out our sins and making us new. Thank you for using your supreme authority and character to offer us forgiveness. Thank you for having mercy on us. We love you.
