Love Like This - A New Command
Week Four, Day One
March 25, 2019
Jesus gave one of the most important commandments at the heart of His ministry. Aside from loving Him, our most important charge is to love one another.
John 13:34 says, "A New Command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, you must love one another."
Does this feel impossible to you? You may think "Okay, I know how to avoid stealing, so that one is easy." It's hard to agree to a life of love when we are looking at love like it's an emotion and not an action. Let's consider the way we love. Think about your absolute favorite person in the world. Think about how much you love them. Now think about how you could love them even better. If we think about the way we are loving others, we may quickly see that we aren't doing it right when it is driven by emotion and not action.
This week we are breaking down 1 Corinthians 13 to understand and feel confident in what it means to love like Jesus. You can go on loving the way you do it, or you can unpack God's definition of love and rock this new command. You decide.
Loving Father, thank you for the way you love us. We know your love is perfect and we long to love like you. There is no way that we can earn your love, yet you give it willingly. Please help us this week while we seek out your guidance on how to love others the way you love us. We know that we have much to learn, and our hearts are open to your wisdom. Amen.
