What are you Doing Here - Setting us Free
Week Three, Day Six
March 23, 2019
As we wrap up week three, it would be crazy to say we have covered even half of what Jesus came to do. With all of these things, we can be sure that He came to set us free and adopt us a His children.
Romans 8:15-16 says, "He sets us free! We are His children. He is for us. And he set us free. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children."
A great father does all of the things we've discussed. He shows mercy and compassion. He serves His children. He of course disciplines as-needed. He helps his kids navigate confusion and sadness. Our Father in Heaven is the ultimate Abba, which means daddy. He sent His only begotten son to set you free, and adopt you into His Kingdom.
We should honor God in His highness, but we would be remiss to ignore that He is loving and good to His children. Our earthly families aren't perfect even when they're great. His love is perfect. His love came to set you free. It would be easy for God to walk away from us at any time. He didn't leave or forsake us. He hasn't walked away yet, and we can trust that He won't.
Will you take this truth with you, and let it impact the way you fast and worship in week four? You decide.
Loving Father, you have set us free... and yes we are free indeed. Thank you for calling us your children. We are half-way through our Lent fast and we want to spend the rest of it loving the way you love us. We are impacted by who you are. We aren't abandoned; rather, adopted. Thank you God for being our perfect Father. Amen.
