What's in a Name: The Resurrection and the Life
Week Six, Day Four
April 11, 2019
Do you ever feel like you've stepped out of the honeymoon phase of your relationship with Jesus, and you start to wonder again what He sees in you? After all, we are naturally inclined to sin and we get lost easily. We are walking around in our grave clothes. Get into the habit daily of reminding yourself that Jesus delivered you from death.
In John 11, Jesus has traveled to Mary and Martha who are mourning the death of their brother Lazarus. He's been in the tomb for 4 days. Mary is confident that this would never have happened if Jesus been there. Jesus assures Mary by saying, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." Jesus then calls Lazarus out of his tomb and says, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."
There is something different about us when we make the decision to wholeheartedly follow Jesus. Our grave clothes are gone. Will you let Him call you out of your tomb today? You decide.
Thank you, Jesus, for calling every one of us out of our graves. Thank you for telling us to take off our old selves and clothe ourselves with righteousness instead. We adore you, and are so thankful that you look at the person we were yesterday and still want us. We are so thankful that you are a transforming presence. Your love for us is clear. We love you. Amen.
